SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 30

Requesting the joint committee on government and finance to make a
study of regulating crematories, funeral establishments and
funeral service in the state of West Virginia.
Whereas, The funeral industry in this state has altered and a
significant portion of the current statutory provisions concerning
the board of embalmers and funeral directors may need to be revised
to reflect these changes; and
Whereas, Crematories in this state are not currently subject
to state licensing or regulation; and
Whereas, Authority for allowing cremations and procedures for
cremation are not provided in current law; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the joint committee on government and finance is hereby
requested to review, examine and study the status of the funeral
service industry and crematory regulation and to make
recommendations to the Legislature regarding the same; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the joint committee on government and
finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 1998, on
its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the joint committee of
government and finance.
